Lyle Dean
     The voice of the time-bomb station ID was legendary Chicago news anchor Lyle Dean.  Lyle began his news career in
Chicago in 1968 on WLS.  During three of his ten years there, he also anchored ABC Radio Network newscasts out of
Chicago.  From there he served as news director of WFYR, prior to joining WGN in 1984.  Lyle had served as president
of the Illinois News Broadcasters Association.  He also received various UPI and Associated Press awards.  Lyle enjoyed
sailing Lake Michigan during his retirement and is pictured here with friends outside of the Island House, Mackinac Island.
                

   The following audio clip is the 6:00pm newscast delivered by the great Lyle Dean on WLS-AM
on July 7, 1972. Dean was heard as a top news anchor on WLS-AM from 1968 until his exit in 1977.
